Past Community Service Projects:

Thanks to the numerous coaches who dedicated their time, energy, and support over the years, GCA has created and participated in several inspirational community service projects.  Highlights include:

CHRIS Kids : (2005/2006)

This program heals victimized children and strengthens families so that they can reach their potential and be contributing citizens. CHRIS Kids provides a last chance for kids before they face institutionalization or destitution. Their mission is to break the cycle of abuse by healing children, strengthening families and building community.

GCA developed a program originally based on the Cool Girls program and adapted it for an older audience. Five workshops were conducted by nine coaches over two months and included activities around discovering their Future Selves, their Champions and Gremlins, personal values, and productive means for self-expression.

Rainbow Village: (2005)

Rainbow Village provides families in north metro Atlanta in domestic or economic crisis with a healing environment to rebuild their lives through a community based transitional housing program that promotes self-sufficiency. For the last 12 years, Rainbow Village has offered hope for many families facing domestic and economic crises by providing the necessary assistance and resources for families to stay together in transitional housing while they become self-sufficient.

GCA provided three months of coaching to staff members and program graduates and plans to continue into 2006, providing additional programs for coaching and education.

Dress for Success/Professional Women’s Group: (2004)

The Professional Women’s Group (PWG) consists of graduates from the DFS program, which advances low-income women's economic and social development and encourages self-sufficiency through career development and employment retention. Each DFS client receives one suit when she has a job interview and a week's worth of separates when she gets the job. The DFS Professional Women's Group program then provides ongoing support to help the client build a successful career.

Twelve GCA coaches participated in a three-month coaching program developed to voluntarily coach PWG members

Cool Girls, Inc.: (2002/2003)

This was our first community service program recipient. Cool Girls, Inc., is a non-profit organization dedicated to the self-empowerment of girls in low-income communities. The Cool Girls programs are designed to instill self-confidence and provide exposure to greater opportunities through mentoring, life skills, education, health, and academic support.

More than twenty GCA coaches designed and rolled out a five-week module titled “Who AM I?”, which was presented as part of the Cool Girls after-school program. This interactive program uses experiential learning and group coaching to introduce grades 3-7 girls to who they are. The “Who am I?” program has been presented to more than 80 girls at two Atlanta area schools.
